Summary
This collection consists of membership applications for the United Daughters of the Confederacy Turner Ashby Chapter, from 1896- . Also included are the original charters, a few programs, scrapbooks and yearbooks, mostly form the second half of the twentieth century. The nine cassette tapes are of interviews with local people on Valley historical matters (particularly the Civil War), most of them done by local historian Wip Robinson, whose wife was a Chapter president, around 1960. An index to the tapes is available from the Special Collections office

Biographical or historical data
The Turner Ashby Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy was chartered by about two dozen Harrisonburg ladies in the late 1890's. Most of their work has centered on educational and historical preservation efforts, including the erection of the Turner Ashby Monument, located off of Port Republic Road, Harrisonburg, Va.
