Summary
Records the recollections of Mutt Fox, aged 92, from Fridley Gap, Va. Recalls people and places associated with the tanbark industry in the area. Mentions work he did piling bark and describes the use of a steam engine, cable line (owned by G. Luther Kite), and mule used to haul logs and bark to and from the top of Massanutten mountain. (Most of the bark was either hauled to Keezletown or to Harrisonburg to the Houck Tannery). Talks about a local saw mill, Peterfish Gap, Fridley Gap and Grubb Gap. Recalls survey and 1912-13 (?) land sale from the iron company that owned Catherine Furnace to the U.S. government
