Summary
  • Consists of ca. 70 items/miscellaneous documents pertaining to the U.S. Civil War, 1860-1865. The collection includes primary source materials, writings about the war by several historians including John Wayland, documents pertaining to museums and monuments, and pamphlets and booklets about various aspects of the war
  • Series I contains muster rolls from Union regiments and notes on a Confederate infantry muster roll; soldiers' letters; an Union Army honorable discharge; a pay voucher for an Union aide-de-camp; a copy of a receipt from Adams Express Co.; a Treasury Dept. letter; and a pension notificaton from the Bureau of Pensioners. Series II includes records of Confederate soldiers, including lists of Rockingham County companies; Southern Cross of Honor applicants; rosters of ex-Confederates in the County; and a list of veterans from the Linville area. Series III contains letters to C. M. Lyne, some of her poems, and information on her attempts to acquire a Confederate monument for Harrisonburg's Court Square; also Civil War Centennial Museum documents. Series IV includes pamphlets and booklets on: Camp Chase, Ohio; two on Capt. McNeill; one on Belle Boyd; an address on A. Lincoln; Miss Rutherford's scrapbook on the South's view of slavery; and a bulletin from the Virginia State Library
